As Long As You Love Me (Justin Beiber) Music Video Overview

Justin Beiber's new music video, As Long As You Love Me is a catchy new song I caught on VH1 yesterday. It was morning, and I was still groggy, sitting with my coffee and cereal in front of the television. The music video came on as I was flipping through the channels. I stopped and watched, becoming amazed within the first few seconds of it. I had heard the song before, but never seen the companion video. The song is very modern and up to date with the music of this time period. It keeps you awake and might even make you dance, but the meaning behind it is well written and would stop a girl's heart in an instance if her boyfriend sang it to her. The words paint a picture of love and beauty, sacrifice and honesty. I may be looking a bit too deep below the surface of this pop song, but there are other things about it that I find very interesting and well done.

The music video for Justin Beiber's As Long As You Love Me is the best I've seen of his. There is a tragic and enthralling plot, a mild amount of acting, and even action and gore. Justin does a very good job at making his facial expressions full of pain and longing. In the video, he and the father of his lover get into a rather brutal fist fight. In this scene, Justin gets beat up and has movie makeup on that assures he really got hurt badly. The whole time he is getting pounded, he continues to experience flashbacks of him and his lover ( who is played by the gorgeous Chanel Celaya). The video has an actual plot, other than the artist just sitting and singing the song with a graphic background. I respect and enjoyed the music video and wish that more were made like it.

The wardrobe in Justin Beiber's video for As Long As You Love Me says something very particular to our culture. In the reality of the music video, as Justin walked around and (danced around), drove and called on pay phones, he wore very dark colors. Black leather jackets and dark jeans; deep colors and hard, textured fabrics represented cold and angry feelings. Feeling of sadness. But I also noticed that in the flashbacks Justin has of the good times with his lover, the wardrobe is light and breezy; bearing pastel colors and floral prints. It's like the clothes are trying to tell you something. They always are. In the flashbacks they wore lighter clothes because it represents their happy, carefree feelings. When in the reality of the music video, it's cold and hard and dark. Like the situation. Fashion always makes a statement, especially in the music industry. You just have to learn to understand what every peice of clothing is trying to say.
